To combine pages into one block and provide protection against mechanical damage, it is customary to use binding. It is also intended for cover decoration. Thread Sewn binding
Thread Sewn hardcover is the most time-consuming and, therefore, expensive type of work. Specialists work with it on equipment that is designed for this type of work. Books, diplomas, dissertations, gift editions in such binding will serve for a long time in operation and look presentable. Such bindings are made not only for sheets that are still warm from printing but also for those that disintegrate in the hands and need restoration. As to archival documents, such works are stored more prolonged, in order, and are easier to find.
Saddle Stitch binding
For Saddle Stitch type of binding, preliminary preparation of sheets is necessary, which are folded together to form pages. After folding, the sheets are folded according to the pagination order and then stapled. Binding is carried out on a special wire stitching machine, which implies a particular scale of a printing salon or mini printing house. One of the sewing options is stapling along the fold line. This method is called saddle stitching and is mainly used for book blocks of no more than 128 pages. For thicker books, stitching is used. The staples stitch the block, not along the spine line but the edge of the foot, passing through the entire block.
Perfect binding
The Perfect type of book binding is used for magazines, brochures, or other publications with thin pages and many sheets. The pages are connected with the glue, and their spines need to be trimmed off. Later, for the correction, those books are cut on three sides to create the perfect form of publishing.
